Event Details

In 1992, Napranum Elder and renowned sculptural artist, Dr Thancoupie Fletcher AO, brought to life the first-ever Ruchook Festival and her legacy has allowed Napranum Aboriginal Shire Council to continue to celebrate language, culture, dance, and the sacredness of this land. As they prepare to celebrate Ruchook this year, they will continue to honour her legacy as their Elder, as an artist and as a source of inspiration who through the legacy of her Bursary fund has paved the way for young people of the Western Cape.

The Napranum Ruchook Cultural Festival is a free bi-annual festival with live performances from Cape York’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Dance groups, communities and local artists.
