So, you’re searching for your next adrenaline-inducing activity in Tropical North Queensland? From bungy jumping to jet boat rides, here’s some new ways to get your heart racing.
Tropical North Queensland is a region where thrillseeking comes naturally. You can tackle hardcore mountain biking trails all through the region, find remote waterfalls thundering down rapid gorges or conquer challenging mountain peaks that are sure to take your breath away. There are so many ways to discover the region and if you’re not ready to let your heart rate drop, add these activities to your schedule.
Make the big jump
Ramp up the adrenaline to the max and experience an unforgettably breathtaking view of Tropical North Queensland’s twin jewels – its World Heritage rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef – with a tandem skydive at Cairns or Mission Beach. Or skydive over the stunning Etty Bay with Cairns Skydiving.
Raft the rapids
Take your pick of locations and navigate the rapids of the beautiful Barron or Tully rivers in your own raft on a guided tour. The guides will show you the ropes and lead you every step of the way as the river twists through spectacular World Heritage rainforest scenery and the rapids get bigger and trickier.
Stretch the bungy
At Skypark Cairns by AJ Hackett’s Bungy Tower, set in the rainforest at Smithfield, you can take your pick from the 16 different jump styles on offer, which include everything from a graceful Swan Dive all the way to riding a BMX bike off a roof. Or you can just soar to a height of 45m at speeds of up to 120km/h with a friend on the Giant Jungle Swing.
At Skypark, you can enjoy a thrilling jump and then relax with a couple of cold ones, knowing their free shuttle service means you don’t have to drive!
Get wet
There’s waterfall chasing and then there’s canyoning. See a different side to some of Cairns’ most iconic waterways as you abseil, zipline, slide and leap down incredible freshwater creeks surrounded by dense tropical rainforest. They have a range of different tours available at several locations so choose which one fills your adventurous void best.
Snorkel with the whales
Take a Minke Whale Dive Expedition with Mike Ball Dive Expeditions, Divers Den, Spirit of Freedom or Pro Dive to swim right alongside these big, beautiful creatures of the ocean, one of the natural world’s truly remarkable experiences.
Ride a jet boat
Experience spins, slides and speed – and plenty of laughs – on Bad Fishy’s Tropical Twist jet boat tour, a fast-paced 35-minute marine adventure that takes in the sights of beautiful Trinity Inlet in Cairns. A warning: you will get wet.
Swim with the salties
Croc-o-dial up your adrenaline levels at Wildlife Habitat’s new Swim With The Salties experience. Plunge into a pool and swim eye-to-teeth with 4.5m saltwater crocodiles.
