Dwarf Minke Whale season 2022 in full swing

The 2022 Dwarf Minke Whale season has started with a bang, or shall we say a blow, with several of the gentle giants spotted on the Great Barrier Reef already.

The first few Dwarf Minke Whales of the year have been spotted on an expedition with Pro Dive Cairns. The whales, that can be as long as a double decker bus, were sighted at Lighthouse Bommie, Two Towers and Steve’s Bommie on the Ribbon Reefs. Guests were overwhalemed by the appearance of the majestic mammals and enjoyed swimming alongside them.

Tropical North Queensland is home to the only predictable aggregation of Dwarf Minke Whales in the world, arriving annually between Port Douglas and Lizard Island during June and July.

You can book this once-in-a-lifetime experience with Mike Ball Dive Expeditions, Divers Den, or Pro Dive, who offer expeditions ranging from 3 to 7 days.
