Cairns and Great Barrier Reef Adventure

Adventurous by nature, Tropical North Queensland gets the adrenalin pumping with tours that are wilder, faster, higher, deeper and most definitely better.

Heli-rafting is for extreme adventure enthusiasts with a helicopter taking you into remote pristine rainforest to raft the mighty South Johnstone River and the only way out is tackling the awesome rapids all the way to the end. Or travel by bus to raft the Tully River for an exhilarating ride to remember.

Experience the heights of the Wet Tropics rainforest on a flying fox zipline, jungle surfing through the rainforest to platforms where you can admire the Great Barrier Reef through the trees. Or leap through the rainforest on a bungy cord to see the Wet Tropics upside down.

Venture into the rainforest after dark to spotlight wildlife, take a boat along the Daintree River looking for crocodiles or hook a mighty barramundi on a fishing adventure.

Diving offers unlimited adventures with shark dives, minke whale dives, giant potato cod feeding, drift dives through channels of the Great Barrier Reef home or encounter a swirling vortex of barracuda.

Learning to dive is an adventure in itself with the thrill of those first underwater encounters with the colourful marine life of the Great Barrier Reef hard to beat. Speed to the Reef on a jet boat for an exhilarating snorkelling trip or have some fun on an underwater motorised scooter.

Seaplanes and helicopters provide a memorable and spectacular view of the Reef or experience the tapestry of landscapes on the Atherton Tableland with an early morning hot air balloon trip.

Kayak, jet ski, canoe, quad bike and mountain bike tours allow you to explore the Tropical North from a different perspective or join a guided off-road motorcycle tour to Cape York, the northern-most tip of Australia.

Bush walking trails can be found throughout the region with the most challenging on the spectacular Misty Mountains Trail, a series of long-distance walking trails through high-altitude rainforest. Several of the walking tracks follow the ridgelines long used by the area’s traditional owners, the Jirrbal and Ma:mu Aboriginal people.

And if you still haven’t appeased the dare devil within, then leap 14,000 feet from a plane over the Great Barrier Reef and its islands on to a beautiful sandy beach.
